What is Prism?
Prism is a charity which receives financial support from local statutory authorities, charitable trusts and individuals. Prism is involved in alcohol issues which affect the community as well as offering individually tailored help to people with alcohol problems, and their relatives. More about Prism here.

What will it cost me?
Nothing; all advice or help offered to individuals is free of any charge.

Is the service Confidential?
Yes; Prism operates a strict confidentiality policy.

Will I have to stop drinking?
Not necessarily; if you have a problem Prism may be able to help you to understand it and provide some possible solutions. You will not be told what you must do. Prism will offer advice and support to help you and whatever decision you make will be your own.

How can Prism help?
Assessment
With the confusion over what is ‘normal’ or what is ‘safe’ drinking, many people find it difficult to decide whether they need to change. Prism can help by explaining some of the facts and answering your questions. The end of this process is when you decide whether you need to change or not.
Advice
Many people go through periods of drinking heavily without developing serious problems - most reduce their intake as a result of changing circumstances. Sometimes advice is useful to help with this change. Needing advice on how to cut down drinking does not mean you have serious drink problem.
Counselling
Stopping or cutting down drinking can sometimes be very difficult. Prism offers an individual counselling service to provide specialist support in such cases. Sometimes there are other problems which need addressing such as anxiety or boredom. Prism can help you find solutions.
Referral to other agencies
Some people need help and support other than Prsim can offer. If help such as detoxification. residential treatment or self help groups is needed Prism is able to contact such services for you.
Help for Friends and relatives
Advice information and support is available to friends relatives and carers.
